After about a year in waiting the National University Commission has approved Online BSc Nursing of ABU to run as Open and Distance Learning from 2019. Below is the content of the circular sent to the school by NUC and obtained:
I write at the instance of the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commision in reference to the application of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria of 20 September, 2018 for approval to establish and run Bachelor of Nursing (BNSc) programme via Open and Distance Learning mode at its Distance Learning Centre.
The Vice-Chancellor will recall that in response to the University’s request, a programme Pre-validation visit by a panel consisting of ODL Expert, subject matter expert and NUC representative took place on 4-7 December, 2018. The objective of the visit was to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programme via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Mode .
The panel found out that the human resources and all necessary ODL infrastructures for delivery of content provided by the University are adequate for the running of the proposed programme and therefore recommended the Validation of the programme via the ODL mode.
Having considered the panel’s findings and subsequent conclusions and recommendation, the Commission approved the establishment of the proposed BNSc Nursing Science undergraduate programme which shall run be run via the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Admission shall be through direct entry, Only Registered Nurses who already have hospital experience shall be eligible. This approval takes effect from the 2018/2019 academic session.
