Ontario Nurses Wins Increased Wage in Arbitration Panel

An arbitrator has awarded nurses across Ontario a new contract, with wage increases for the next two years.

Nurses in northwestern Ontario and across the province have a new collective agreement, that includes wage increases for both full-time and part-time staff.

An arbitrator awarded the new collective agreement between the Ontario Nurses’ Association and the Ontario Hospital Association last week, after the 17th round of central bargaining between the two parties.

Nurses across the province, with roughly 61,000 represented by the ONA, will see wage increases of 1.4 per cent – retroactive to April 1, 2018, and a 1.75 per cent increase in 2019. Nurses will also have access to new mental health services by a psychologist or social worker.

Negotiations between the two parties began in January.
